SUMMARY TRANSLATION TASS reported on research now being carried out in the Institute of Psychology of the Academy of Pedagogic Sciences of the Russian Federation in. MOSKVA to read human thought from oscillographic recordings. Scientists were assigned the task of solving the problem of mechanical thought-reading and to develop an apparatus for this which will be suited for extensive use. The TASS repo ter watched an experiment for recording the brain reaction during " the thought process. This recording, together with the nervine reactions on the "speaking instrument" furnish an oscillographic picture of "internal speech" Up to now, psychologists have not succeeded in deciphering the bizarre lines of the automatic recorder. They are close to determining the sound spectrum for distinguishing the sounds without error, and have already succeeded in determin- ing the spectrum for a series of vowels.
