A BRIEF INTRODUCTION TO
THE CHINESE ACADEMY OF SOMATIC SCIENCE
Somatic science is a major development of modern science and technology.
Well-known scientist Prof. Qian Xuesen has pointed out, "A thorough study and
research of somatic science will fully change mankind's ability in understanding
and reforming nature, and bringing benefits to mankind." "This may lead to a
scientific revolution in the 21st century which may be even greater than quantum
mechanics and the theory of relativity in the 20th century." "It will usher in a
second Renaissance and is another leap forward for human history."
Headed by Prof. Qian Xuesen, the Chinese scientists have made an all-
around exposition on the concept and content of somatic science: the guiding
ideologies and view-points, the field and method of study as well as the strategy
of development and recent programmes. Thus, we are laying a foundation and
showing clearly its orientation for the establishment of this new and developing
science.
The spring of 1990 saw the establishment of the Chinese Academy of
Somatic Science. Honorary council chairman of the China Association of Somatic
Science, Qian Xuesen, council chairman, Zhang Zhenhuan are the initiators
and founding directors of this academy. Well-known scientists Zhao Zhongyao,
Bei Shizhang, Qian Weizhang, Wang Dezhao, Wang Shoujue and others expressed
their full concern and support for the establishment and development of this
academy.
AIM
The aim of the academy is the establishment of basic studies and research
of somatic science and its application, to lay a good foundation for the basic ap-
plication of somatic science and to benefit mankind.
GUIDING IDEOLOGY
The academy uses dialectical-materialist ideologies as a guide to study and
research somatic science;
With systems, theory and methodology as an academic guide, using results
of modern science to derive the essence of traditional culture;
Combining the study and research of modern medicine, traditional medi-
cine, qigong and the special functions of the human-body;

Combining the study and research in a multidisciplinary approach;
Combining basic studies and research with applications.
ORGANIC PRINCIPLE AND ORGANIZATION
The academy utilizes the organic principle in organizing the nuclear struc-
ture within a small entity, providing greater elasticity and multiple strata. In
the first stratum there is an advisory committee, board of directors and an acade-
mic committee, implementing the chairman's responsibility under the provisions
of leadership of the board of directors. In the second stratum are basic studies
and research, application studies and research, talent collecting departments, in-
ternational cooperaton, administrative management and other functional depart-
ments. The third stratum consists of a certain number of centres, institutes, de-
partments, sections and other grass-root units directly affiliated to the academy.
The fourth stratum includes units and individuals having close contacts or co-
operative relations with the academy.
A small number of professionals, and a greater number of personnel with
concurrent jobs, work with a capable and efficient academy as the center, and
with scientists as the main body. They will make full use of modern means of
communication and transportation as well as the most advanced instruments and
facilities at home and abroad. They will conduct separate studies and research,
and implement unified leadership and unified management. Our aim is to estab-
lish a new-type of study and research academy with high efficiency, and high
standards as well as a vigorous and flexible economy.
FUNDS
The Chinese Academy of Somatic Science is a self-funded civic-scientific re-
search organization. Its funds are chiefly from funds allocated to subjects of
scientific research and benefits from donations, as well as cooperation and as-
sistance at home and abroad.

THE PRINCIPLES OF DONATION TO THE FUND
OF
THE CHINESE ACADEMY OF SOMATIC SCIENCE

AIM
Somatic science is a major development of modern science and
technology. With a view to advancing basic studies and research of
somatic science and its application, the Chinese Academy of Somatic
Science will require financial support from any source for a period of
considerable length. Therefore we welcome any donation from people
of farsight all over the world to the fund of the academy.
This fund is intended to support research of the new science which
may lead to a scientific revolution in the 21th century and bring
great benefits to mankind.
THE USE OF THE DONATION
1.
Financing basic studies and research of somatic science and its
application in the form of a research fund;
2.
The capital construction of a scientific research centre, which is
to be located in Beijing, with a floor space of 20,000 square
metres, used for research, teaching, development and application
of somatic science (for details refer to the plan of the building);
.
3.
Investment in projects for application and development capable
of yielding outstanding social and economical benefits;
4.
The establishment of prizes or grants in somatic science to en-
courage researchers of remarkable achievements in the field;
5.
Other disbursements.
THE RELATIONSHIP
BETWEEN DONORS AND THE ACADEMY
1.
Each donor shall be awarded a certificate of honour specially
issued by the Academy;
2.
Each donor shall have his/her name engraved in a tablet in the
principal building of the Academy and recorded in the history of
the Academy;
3.
Donors of 100,000 dollars and above shall receive a health-care
card from the Academy and have the benefit of consultant service
of special diagnosis in the Chinese traditional manner for 5 years;
4.
Donors of 300,000 dollars and above shall receive a health-care
card and they as well as the immediate members of their families
shall have the benefit of consultant service of special diognosis
and treatment in the Chinese traditional manner for 5 years;

5.
Donors of 500,000 dollars and above, in addition to the benefits
as stated in item 4, shall earn the honorary titles of the academy
(such as honorary councillor, honorary professor, honorary con-
sultant or honorary academician). In addition, special prizes in
somatic science shall be named after them.
THE PROCEDURE OF DONATION
1.
"Somatic Science Research Development Fund" established by
China International Culture Exchange Foundation is the only
legal channel through which donations to the Academy are to be
given.
2.
The donor is invited to send a letter with respect to his/her in-
tention of how the donations is to be used through China Interna-
tional Culture Exchange Foundation.
3.

介
人体科学是现代科学技术体系中的一大门类。著名科学家钱学森
教授指出:“对人体科学的深入研究必将充分改变人类认识与改造自
然的能力,造福于人类。”“这可能导致一场二十一世纪新的科学革
命,也许是比二十世纪初的量子力学、相对论更大的科学革命。”
“一定会招来一个第二次文艺复兴,是人类历史的再次飞跃。”
以钱学森教授为首的中国科学工作者,全面阐述了人体科学的概
念与内涵,指导思想与基本观点,研究范畴与研究方法,发展战略与
近期规划,为这门新兴学科的创立奠定了基础,指明了方向。
二十世纪九十年代的第一春,中国人体科学研究院在北京应运而
生。中国人体科学学会名誉理事长钱学森、理事长张震寰是中国人体
科学的创建者和总指导者,著名科学家赵忠尧、贝时璋、钱伟长、汪
德昭、王守觉、胡海昌等也热情关心与支持中国人体科学研究院的建
立和发展。

组织原则与机构
小实体、大弹性,多层核式结构。第一层设立顾问委员会、理事
会、学术委员会,实行理事会领导下的院长负责制;第二层设立基础
研究、应用研究、人材汇聚、国际合作、行政管 理 等方面的 职能部
门;第三层设立若干中心、所、部、室、组等直属基层单位;第四层
是挂靠或合作的单位与个人。
少量专职,大量兼职;以精干的院部为中心,科学家为主体,充
分运用现代通讯、交 通工具以及国内外最先进的仪器设备,分散研
究,统一领导和管理。建成一个高效率、高水平、经济灵活的新型的
研究院。

人体科学是现代科学体系中正在崛起的一个大部门。
为了深入开展人体科学的基础研究和应用研究,中国人体科学研
究院在相当长的时期内需要必要的资金支持。为此,敬希全世界有识
之士对这门将导致一场二十一世纪新的科学革命,造福于全人类的新
兴学科给予关心和支持,为中国人体科学研究院提供各种形式的赞助
资金。

赞助资金的使用方向
1. 以科学基金形式为基础研究和应用基础研究提供立项经费;
2.科研基地基本建设经费;拟在中国北京建设总面积为2万平方
米的科研、教学及应用开发三位一体的基地(详见设计方案图);
3.对有重大社会效益及经济效益的应用开发项目进行发展投资;
4.设立人体科学研究成果奖,对有突出贡献的科学工作者给予奖
励。
5.其他。
赞助人与中国人体科学研究院的关系
1.对每一位赞助人,均发给中国人体科学研究院特制的荣誉证
书;
2.将每一位赞助人的姓名,镌刻在中国人体科学研究院主体建筑
之石碑上,并载入院史;
3.赞助金额在10万美元(或相当的欧洲货币单位与日元)以上
者,发给中国人体科学研究院保健卡,并在五年内为其本人提供中国
传统方式的特种诊断的咨询服务;
4.赞助金额在30万美元(或相当的欧洲货币单位与日元)以上
者,发给中国人体科学研究院保健卡,并在十年内为其本人及直系亲
属提供中国传统方式的特种诊断、治疗的咨询服务;

5.赞助金额在50万美元(或相当的欧洲货币单位与日元)以上
者,除提供上述第4项的服务以外,授予中国人体科学研究院的名誉
称号(例如:名誉理事,名誉教授,名誉顾问,名誉院士等);亦可
以赞助者指定的名义命名人体科学奖。

1.中国国际文化交流基金会设立“人体科学研究发展基金”,作
为本院接受赞助资金的合法渠道。
