Our nearest stellar neighbor, Alpha Centauri, is a three- star system, while Castor, in the constellation Gemini, must be counted as a trio of double, or binary, stars orbiting a common center. When binary stars are close enough to interact with each other, they produce some of the most explosive, peculiar, and baffling events yet observed. - .
