The target was the South Seas coral atoll of Bora
Bora.
Called the "Pearl of Polynesia", it's history dates back
to the British Admiralty and the famous Captain Cook.
The
circular atoll is characterized by its steeply towering mountains
often shrouded in clouds and its distinctive circular and
treacherous coral reef.
The island is completely surrounded by
this reef and there is only one deep draft entry.
There is a
small airstrip used by residents of nearby island, especially
Tahiti, to visit the island.

Source correctly identified a round land/water
interface with "water hitting against the land" and rising, green
hills, all of which is a extraordinarily accurate description of
the small atoll and the effect of the surf against the coral
reef.
The descriptors then seemed to flit back to the late 1700s
as Source began describing the presence of an object in the
water, "floating up, people "involved" (on board?), big, (things
that are) white, soft, rounded, " and the concepts of "hooking
and latching ( "lashing" of ropes or lanyards ?). Later the
concept of, "ropes, strings, twinings, roping", were described.
The men here were described as, "rugged, prepared, (doing) rugged
work, "they know what to do". These men did not, "move toward
the land, don't travel out, stay put", as would be expected of
sailors who, history tells us, were unable to find the opening in
the reef that would permit Cook's ship, "The Endeavor", to enter
the "protected" harbor.
Ironically Source frequently used the
word, protected" in her descriptives.
Source further described a
man (CPT Cook ?), as being, "young, intelligent, responsible",
and intent on working with, "maps, charts and reading".
The
site, in the time period viewed by Source had been a, "beautiful
area, once known for bringing in people, trading, "bartering" (un
unusual archaic term) , but not now". The area is now, according
to Source, peaceful, calm and secluded with activities (people
?), "brought in but then they leave", which again is an accurate
description of Bora Bora's main attraction today - tourism.
