"Altered States of Consciousness and PSI"
In psychic functioning, we deliberately eliminate information
flow irrelevant to the target from the outside world.
Noise is
always present which influences the output.
Sensory isolation
techniques have been utilized to reduce this problem.
Psychic functioning is latent in ordinary consciousness.
The
psychic receptor transforms information into a form useful for
mind processing.
Once it is activated, four routes of
information flow

How all of these routes operate is affected by our
state of consciousness.
Any state of consciousness is a system.
The parts interact with each other' to form a particular pattern.
Psychic functioning is also affected by emotions and time and
space.
Only a fraction of the studies on psi deal with the
